YOU can banish annoying window condensation this winter with a budget Walmart hack.

The retailer’s $1 kitchen basic out-performs washing-up liquid, vinegar and even salt.

Condensation is caused by everyday things such as cooking, washing, bathing and even breathing.

These produce moisture in the air that, upon coming into contact with a cold surface, causes condensation on your windows.

To try and eliminate the problem, Housebuilding & Renovating checked various “myths” to suss out whether common household items worked.

A tester said they smeared windows with washing-up liquid to check its effectiveness.

But “this had no impact on the condensation levels, with water still forming on the edges of the window panes.

“On a positive note, it did at least gave my windows a nice clean and made them smell fresh.”

The tester then applied vinegar, however this only “reduced it slightly.”

A cup of salt was next placed on the same window.

However, it took more than 12 minutes to absorb and clear the condensation.

The final item tested was plain, uncooked long-grain rice – available at Walmart for just $1 for a 16 oz bag .

Fortunately, this kitchen favorite worked.

It “significantly sped up the time it took for the condensation to clear,” the website said.

The cup of rice was placed on the tester’s kitchen’s window ledge, “and the condensation had cleared within four minutes and 58 seconds.

“It could be a handy solution for small-scale condensation.”

Some condensation hacks “are as useful as a chocolate teapot,” said Chris Michael, CEO of Meaco.
