The Australian is expected to make a switch to Super Formula for the 2026 season.

And ahead of that move he participated in a test with around the Suzuka circuit in – the venue of the nation’s race.

However, Doohan has had a difficult time during testing after crashing three times in as many days at the same corner.

Doohan, who failed to score any points in F1, ended the third day of testing 26th out of 34 drivers.

He had huge struggles at the Degner Curve on each day, struggling to find the limit on the apex and proceeding to crash out into the barriers off the track.

Fortunately he walked away from all three incidents unscathed.

However, the three incidents saw Doohan become the latest driver to fall victim of vile trolls online.

F1 star Kimi Antonelli was sent over 1,000 abusive messages after an error at the Qatar Grand Prix allowed to go past him and finish P4 in the race.

That position gained ended up being pivotal for the World Drivers’ Championship as Norris pipped to the title by just two points in Abu Dhabi a week later.

Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko initially said Antonelli had let Norris through, but immediately apologised when it was made clear that the Italian had made a mistake.

Comments sent to the 19-year-old rookie included disgusting death threats, and in response he blacked out his page.

Doohan has followed suit and turned off comments after receiving abusive messages on his page as well.

SunSport have approached Alpine for comment.
