Leaders of Benue communities have urged President Donald Trump of the United States to extend airstrikes to the North-East and North-Central regions of Nigeria to ensure the complete eradication of the terrorist groups that are attacking and killing both Christian and Muslim Nigerians.
They also praised Trump for honoring his commitment by conducting airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in the North-West.
The President General of Mzough U Tiv, MUT, worldwide, Iorbee Ihagh, made this appeal in a statement released on Friday.
In response to the airstrike in Sokoto, Ihagh mentioned that he had previously written a letter to thank Trump for taking the courageous step to halt the genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
The tribal leader noted that he had previously appealed to the US President to intervene and help stop the ongoing violence in the country.
“This is indeed a positive development. Our request to the American President is for these strikes to be maintained and to be decisive,” he stated.
“We also call for the airstrikes to be extended to the North-East and North-Central regions, where we have endured unimaginable attacks and killings by these terrorist organizations.”
“Benue State, in particular, has faced an unprecedented level of violence, displacing hundreds of thousands of our people into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps,” he added.
