Published on May 03, 2025 at 08:18 AM

A woman died early Saturday in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki after a bomb she was carrying exploded in her hands.

The police made this known, adding that the woman was known to authorities after taking part in several robberies.

The police also said that they were investigating her possible ties to extreme leftist groups.

According to the police, the 38-year-old woman was apparently carrying the bomb to place it outside a nearby bank at around 5am on Saturday.

Several storefronts and vehicles were damaged by the explosion.

“It appears that she was carrying an explosive device and planned to plant it a bank’s ATM. Something went wrong and exploded in her hands,”; the police said.
