Sokoto South Senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has called on the Federal Government to broaden the scope of the ongoing security operations against terrorists to encompass areas beyond the state.
Tambuwal made this appeal on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST.
The lawmaker emphasized that security efforts should be more comprehensive and should not be limited to a single location.
He pointed out that regions across the country require equal focus, noting that terrorist activities are not confined to just one state.
“Regions of concern such as Borno, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and many other areas in the country should be included in this operation. We must avoid a scenario where a specific area, which may not be as widely reported, is facing significant security challenges similar to those in other states but is overlooked,” Tambuwal stated.
“I believe the Nigerian government should pursue stronger collaboration with more countries, including the US and others willing to assist in this fight; after all, it is a transnational issue,” Tambuwal added.
According to DAILY POST, on Christmas night, US President Donald Trump announced significant and lethal strikes against terrorists in the Northwest region.
However, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) clarified that the air operations were conducted at the behest of Nigerian authorities.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed that the country had worked in collaboration with the United States on the strikes aimed at ISIS terrorists in Sokoto.
