THE ex-wife of Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has delivered a brutal parting shot as the monster was hauled away to begin life behind bars.

Just hours after the confessed killer was shipped out of Long Island, the woman who initially stood by him made clear exactly what she thinks of his fate.

Asa Ellerup, speaking through her lawyer, said the 62-year-old had nobody to blame but himself after being sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for murdering eight women.

“She believes Rex got what he deserves,” attorney Bob Macedonio said.

“She believes the sentence was 100% appropriate and her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”

The chilling verdict from Heuermann’s former wife came as the callous killer was transferred from Suffolk County Jail to Green Haven Correctional Facility in Dutchess County.

Corrections officials confirmed the 6ft 4in architect is undergoing intake processing before authorities decide which prison will become his permanent home.

Heuermann was handed three life sentences on Wednesday after admitting he strangled, tortured and murdered eight women between 1993 and 2010 before dumping their bodies across remote parts of Long Island.

The murders remained a mystery for years after human remains began turning up near Gilgo Beach in 2010.

But the case was cracked open after investigators revived the probe in 2022, eventually linking Heuermann to the killings through DNA evidence, including traces recovered from a discarded pizza box.

In April, the Massapequa Park architect confessed to murdering Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Maureen Brainard-Barnes – known as the “Gilgo Four” – along with Valerie Mack, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla and Karen Vergata.

Prosecutors said all but one of the victims were bound and tortured inside a basement “kill room” at the family home while Ellerup and the couple’s children were away.

The emotional sentencing hearing saw relatives of the slain women confront Heuermann face-to-face for the first time.

Melissa Barthelemy’s sister Amanda Funderburg, who was just 15 when her sibling was killed, told the murderer: “Look at me while I’m talking.”

She described years of torment after receiving taunting phone calls from Heuermann following her sister’s death.

“I was forced to live with crippling anxiety, depression, PTSD, and destroyed nervous system constantly staring at my phone,” Funderberg said.

“Because of the several times you had called me from my sister’s phone telling me she was a wh**e.”

“There are no words I can say, but I am responsible for what was said in this room today,” he said.

“The words I would say have no meaning and I’m going to leave it there at this time.”

Judge Timothy Mazzei was unimpressed.

“I know that you’re sorry you got caught. I assume that you’re sorry for what you did to your wife and children,” he told the killer.

“You’ve been described as a very big man but you’re a disgusting and despicable small man if you’re a man at all and you’re a coward.”

The judge then ordered officers: “Get him out of here.”

Ellerup filed for divorce shortly after Heuermann’s arrest in 2023 and has always maintained she had no knowledge of the murders carried out during their marriage.
