Ex-PDP ward chairman, three others killed in fresh Benue attacks

A former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), James Akase, and three other persons have been killed in fresh attacks by armed invaders in two Local Government Areas of Benue State.

The attacks occurred on Monday in separate rural communities in Gwer West and Guma LGAs, leaving several people injured and many others displaced.

Eyewitnesses said Akase, who hailed from Tse-Defam, Mba’akov Vengav in Avihijime Council Ward of Gwer West LGA, was killed when he returned to his abandoned home in search of food for his family.

He had earlier been displaced by the continued attacks in the area.

In Guma LGA, three others were killed in coordinated attacks on two villages.

Locals said that at Tse Ikpe Ago, located along the Yogbo-Gyungu Aze road in Mbayer/Yandev Council Ward, a man identified as Bartholomew Ikornya was shot dead.

In another village, Tse Kologa in Mbagune, Nyiev Council Ward, two other victims, Gabriel Korlaga and one Kunde, were also killed.

Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Victor Ormin, confirmed the incident.

Ormin described the repeated attacks as disturbing and called on security agencies to step up surveillance and protection in the affected communities.
