A RECENT law grad who spent two years unsuccessfully hunting for jobs has lifted the lid on how an Etsy witch for hire turned his life around.
Matthew Rath was stunned by the instant luck change akin to the 2026 blockbuster Obsession, but the turn was so severe he started to panic.

An “Etsy witch” is someone who claims to practice witchcraft and sells their services on the online shopping platform Etsy.
From love spells to future-telling tarot decks, there’s plenty of Etsy sellers who say they can solve your problems with their magical abilities.
Despite Etsy banning the sale of metaphysical items in 2015, sellers claiming to provide magical services have not been deterred.
Rath, 26, had never heard of Etsy witches until TikTok users implored him to hire one after he shared his unemployment journey .
He told The U.S. Sun: “There’s been a running joke where people have been telling me […] you should go to an Etsy witch.”
Rath initially laughed off the idea, but after another job rejection he decided there was nothing to lose.
He explained: “I replied to someone’s comment and that video got a lot of views and then an Etsy witch reached out to me, and I’m like, you know what, I’ve got nothing to lose, why not just reach out to this witch? So that’s what I did.”
Rath turned to Mystic Tarot Guide who offers tarot card reading, physic guidance and manifestation.
He did not ask for a spell to be cast and instead opted for a reading on his job prospects.
The Etsy seller gave Rath the reading for free in exchange for a TikTok post but is currently selling a similar reading for $32.50.

Many of her other readings and services can often cost over $100.
Rath did not meet her in person and instead sent her some information about himself online.
She then performed the reading and sent her analysis to Rath.
“Going into it, I was very skeptical. I think when I got the reading, I was like, yeah, okay, this person could just be saying whatever,” he said.
“The witch sent me a picture of what she was doing, so she had this table, she asked for my birthday and my name.”
Rath said the process also involved magical stones including a Libra stone because of his star sign.
Despite his reservations, the 26-year-old Floridian found the witches powers worked a charm.
“I was very skeptical, and I still am a little bit, but I noticed a huge difference in the amount of job interviews I’ve been getting since I reached out to this witch, so I thought […] that’s a weird coincidence.”
Rath’s fortune reading was ready in a few hours, and it was three pages long.
The Etsy witch said she could see that around the week of October 14th, which is Rath’s 27th birthday, “a door will open” or he’ll “suddenly get a response”.
Shortly after the witch’s prediction, Rath started to see multiple job interview offers in his inbox.
“I saw a huge influx after I reached out to the Etsy witch. I think I had 14 job interviews the first week,” he said.
“Before that, I’ve probably had, in total, five job interviews for the whole year.”
He added: ” I just got a lot more responses and a lot more interviews, and now I’ve been actually advancing to the next stage of the interviews since then. I’ve never made it this far this consistently.”
Rath shared the witch’s response on TikTok where critics immediately said it looked like AI-generated text.
One person said: “I use em dashes like crazy- but this feels ChatGPT: it’s so non personal. But I hope you get that job!!”
Another added: “Yeah it feels a little GPT.”
While, another wrote: “Hope it works friend I too am thinking about an Etsy witch.”
Rath also noticed some creepy consequences giving him his own “careful what you wish for moment” just like the 2026 horror movie Obsession.
He said: “I think one thing that was creepy was when I made a video talking about the job interview process and I said the Etsy witch needs to chill because I’m getting so many job interviews and after I said that it stopped.
“Like, I still have a few interviews, but the amount of interviews I was getting dramatically decreased.”
He added: “That’s not spooky, I guess, it was just, again, a weird coincidence that that happened, and I was like, did I upset the Etsy witch or something?
“People keep saying they’re like, this is going to turn into the Obsession plot.
“That creeps me out. I’m like, I hope not. But, I didn’t do a spell. It was just a reading. So hopefully I’m protected from that stuff.”
Rath thinks his interaction with the Etsy witch boosted his confidence, but he’s still skeptical to believe that she used her magic to help him on the path to a job.
“I’m not saying I don’t believe in that, I’m just unsure, but it’s a weird coincidence, for sure, that since that reading, I’ve gotten all these job interviews and it’s looking like it is a very realistic possibility that the witch’s prediction of when I’ll get a job is going to come true.”
Rath isn’t alone in asking an Etsy witch for help with his career.
Actress Maisie Williams recently admitted at a premiere for the movie Practical Magic 2 that she once paid an Etsy witch to help land a film role.
Williams was told to say certain phrases every night in order to get the role but her Etsy witch proved unsuccessful.
Rath said he was hesitant to ask for a spell to be cast because some of his followers left concerns and “comments that were not nice about the spell.”
Rath had his final interview for a job he’s hoping to get on October 1 and is now waiting to see if he’s successful in finally getting the job he’s been dreaming of.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Etsy and Rath’s Etsy witch, Mystic Tarot Guide, for comment.
