FORMER Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s ex-assistant has taken up the reins at Turkish side Kasimpasa.

Alfred Schreuder, a fellow Dutchman like ten Hag, is taking over from former Newcastle favourite Emre Belozoglu.

The 46-year-old was a beloved figure on Tyneside in the mid-2000s, but he only stayed at St James’ Park for three seasons.

These days, the playmaking Turk has moved back to Fenerbahce to be their manager where he made 184 league appearances across three different spells at the club as a player.

Just 24 hours after his appointment, Emre saw his Fenerbahce side defeat Liverpool 3-2 in the Champions League with Mason Greenwood getting on the scoresheet.

But Kasimpasa acted fast in the wake of their leader – who was only at the club for 11 months – and recruited ten Hag’s former assistant at Ajax, Schreuder.

The club’s statement read: “Welcome Alfred Schreuder!

“Our club has reached an agreement with Dutch coach Alfred Schreuder for the technical director position until the end of the season.

“In his career, Schreuder, who won the Belgian League championship with Club Brugge, achieved the Netherlands League and Cup championships with Ajax as an assistant coach, and the Spanish Cup championship with Barcelona.

“We wish Alfred Schreuder success in his role with our Kasımpaşa.”

Schreuder did not follow ten Hag to Old Trafford when he bagged the job in 2022.

Instead, he took over the position ten Hag had vacated with Ajax and became their head coach.

Unfortunately, he only lasted around six months in the Ajax hotseat before he was sacked for a string of poor results.

Two jobs in the UAE and then one in Saudi Arabia followed before finally making his way back to Europe with Kasimpasa.
