EPL: Roy Keane and Carragher Express Concerns for Man United's Future with Stark Warning

Former Manchester United star Roy Keane expresses difficulty in understanding Ruben Amorim’s team.

While Keane remains somewhat hopeful, he is not particularly impressed by their performance this season.

Even though the team secured a 1-0 victory against Newcastle on Boxing Day, the Irishman is concerned about the Red Devils’ inconsistency.

He told Sky Sports, “I’m not convinced,” adding that he believes the Red Devils cannot secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Keane attributed some of the blame to manager Ruben Amorim, whom he thinks should be performing better after having a pre-season and making several summer signings.

He also noted that not participating in any European competitions this season should have been an advantage for his former club.

“We are still waiting. The question marks remain for me; we talk about the top four, but they aren’t prepared for that.

“Manchester United simply need to improve. While I won’t claim they are as strong as top defensive teams like Arsenal, they still have room for improvement.

“Whenever I watch Manchester United, even when they perform well offensively, other teams seem to create good chances with ease. To advance as a football club, they need to become harder to defeat.

“They must implement changes, or we will continue to discuss the same issues repeatedly.

“If they keep missing opportunities and failing to score goals as they currently do, they will never progress,” he stated.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher also believes that the Red Devils cannot achieve a top-four finish, but he sees no reason why they shouldn’t qualify for the Europa League or the UEFA Conference League.

The ex-Liverpool defender remarked, “I don’t think they’ll finish in the top four, but they still need to secure a spot in Europe.

“The standards have significantly dropped since last season. They invested a lot of money during the summer. They ought to be in a position in the table that guarantees European qualification.

“The Champions League would be a considerable leap beyond what’s currently feasible. They performed admirably against Aston Villa.”
