Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire scored a goal in his side’s Premier League 5-2 win against Ipswich Town on Sunday.

According to a report by The Independent, the England international appeared to handle the ball in the build-up to his goal against Ipswich Town.

Maguire used his arm to gather possession of the ball before firing a shot that deflected off Ipswich Town player, Jacob Greaves as the ball went into the net.

Many expected the goal to be cancelled, but after a VAR check, the match referee awarded the goal to the Red Devils.

After the incident, the Premier League match centre gave a statement to clarify the reason behind the referee’s decision.

The officials ruled that since Maguire wasn’t the one who scored against Ipswich Town, the unintentional handball couldn’t be punished under the existing rules.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes bagged a hat-trick, while Bryan Mbeumo scored a goal.
