Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged that his team was unable to take advantage of their momentum, resulting in a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.

City aimed to narrow Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to just one point.

However, they failed to convert the early chances given to Erling Haaland, and Harvey Barnes put the hosts ahead in the second half.

Though Ruben Dias’ deflected shot equalized the score at 1-1, Barnes found the net again to secure all three points for the Magpies.

“Newcastle is a top team with outstanding players and a great manager, so unfortunately we couldn't maintain the momentum we had tonight,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day.

“It was an exciting match; both teams had opportunities, but then the momentum shifted, and ultimately, we couldn’t secure the win.”
