Former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, has admitted he would be interested in working alongside Michael Carrick at the club.

The Red Devils are on the verge of appointing Carrick as their interim manager, following the sack of Ruben Amorim.

The 44-year-old is in advanced talks with United over the role and will be confirmed in the coming days.

Rooney is now keen to join Carrick’s backroom staff.

When asked if he would work alongside Carrick, he told the BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show: “Of course I would. It’s a no-brainer.

“I’m not begging a job here by the way. Just so everyone knows, if I was asked to go in of course I would. Appointing the manager is the most important thing.”
