EPL: Nottingham Forest give injury update on Awoniyi

Published on May 13, 2025 at 06:36 PM

Nottingham Forest have provided an injury update on their Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi collided painfully with a post in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the City Ground on Sunday.

The 27-year-old sustained a serious abdominal injury from the incident and was treated for around three minutes on the pitch.

He tried to continue playing after getting back to his feet but couldn’t cope with the pain.

The forward, however, went under the knife on Monday after the club’s medical staff highlighted the need for urgent treatment of the injury.

“Nottingham Forest can confirm that Taiwo Awoniyi is recovering well so far, following urgent surgery on a serious abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match,”;; the Reds said in a statement issued on social media platform X.

“The seriousness of his injury is a powerful reminder of the physical risks in the game and why a player’s health and well-being must always come first.

“At Nottingham Forest, this principle is not just policy for us; it is the deeply held belief and conviction of our owner. To Evangelos Marinakis, this isn’t just a football club, it is a family.”;;
