Chelsea caretaker boss, Frank Lampard, has revealed that his team lost 2-1 against Brighton in Saturday’s Premier League tie at Stamford Bridge because the visitors played as a team and were the better side.
Lampard, who admitted that he was disappointed with the outcome of the match, said Chelsea was not good enough against Brighton.
The Englishman watched as goals from Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso gave Brighton the victory over Chelsea.
Conor Gallagher did score for Lampard’s side.
Speaking to BBC after the game, Lampard said: “I’m disappointed on every level. The better team won. They could have won by more. They played like a team.
“They’ve been together a long time. Not good enough. All the basic parts of football – to fight, to run – we were short on. Not a question of commitment as such. We have a big game on Tuesday [against Real Madrid]. There is no point being too down, but we have to understand why today went the way it did.”
The result against Brighton means Chelsea are in 11th position on the Premier League table after 31 matches.
