Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has named Pavel Morrison as the player who blew his mind with his talent but failed to hit the heights as a footballer.
A lot was expected from Morrison who was part of Manchester United’s youth team that had the likes of Paul Pogba and Danny Welbeck.
Ferdinand noted that Morrison outshone all the other youngsters in that youth setup but could not make it big as a footballer.
“I told you guys. You don’t understand how good this kid was!” Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five
“He blew your mind. It is mad, everyone talks about [him] but it’s almost like you needed to be there to really see and understand what he was doing – and not only in the reserves.
“Sometimes if you’re coming back from injury or something like that you’d go and train with the reserves, he would do even more stupid stuff with the reserves. He’d play centre-back sometimes in training!”
Morrison left Manchester United for West Ham United in January 2012 and spent the 2012–13 season on loan with Birmingham City.
He also played for Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City on loan in 2014. When his contract with West Ham ended, he moved to Italy to join Lazio.
The Jamaican International has represented other clubs such as Mexican club Atlas, Östersund, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and now plays for DC United in the US Major League Soccer.
