Former Premier League star Jamie Redknapp, has blamed Alejandro Garnacho for Chelsea’s failure to beat Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw with the Bees in the fourth week of the Premier League.
Redknapp said that Garnacho fell asleep and forgot to mark Fabio Carvalho who scored Brentford’s equaliser.
It was Garnacho’s first game for Chelsea following the 21-year-old’s £40 million transfer from Manchester United in the summer.
Before moving to Chelsea, the Argentina international was banished from Manchester United squad by manager Ruben Amorim’s team.
Garnacho came on in the second half of the game at the Gtech Stadium.
Cole Palmer had equalised for Chelsea who were 1-0 down and Garnacho was involved the Blues’ second goal scored by Moises Caicedo in the 85 minute.
While Maresca’s men thought they had won the game, Carvalho netted a late equaliser to deny them their third win of the season.
And it was Garnacho who received the blames for failing to mark his man deep into added time.
Redknapp said on Sky Sports, “Garnacho has got to mark Carvalho. That is your job, it is as simple as that.
“Don’t lose him, you are now one of the defensive players in there, if he gets in behind you there, it’s on you.
“The ball comes in from Schader and Garnacho is not concentrating, they get that contract and there he is at the back post.”
The latest result meant that Chelsea have won two and drew two of their first four matches in the Premier League.
