Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand believes Kobbie Mainoo has already shown enough performance to start ahead of Sofyan Amrabat for the Red Devils.
Mainoo delivered an impressive performance in his first ever Premier League start on Sunday as Man United defeated Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park.
The 18-year-old started ahead of Amrabat and was replaced by the Morocco international in the second half against Everton.
However, Ferdinand feels Mainoo performed like former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, adding he does the fundamental of football well than Amrabat.
“I don’t know how they gave the Man of the Match [award] elsewhere,” Ferdinand said on Vibe With Five.
“18 years old, especially centre midfield, very rarely do you see a composed performance like that.”
“I thought about it the other day, 18-year-olds coming into the first team in the Premier League who gave performances like that… [Cesc] Fabregas? I’m not saying he [Mainoo] is as good as these guys, there have been more explosives but I’m talking about composure. This was a crazy performance.”
Asked if Mainoo now starts over Amrabat, Ferdinand replied: “At the moment, yeah.
“Fundamentals, he [Mainoo] does the fundamentals well.”
