EPL: Guardiola in tears as De Bruyne bids farewell to Man City

Published on May 21, 2025 at 05:18 AM

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, broke down into tears as Kevin De Bruyne waved goodbye to the Etihad following his final game in front of the fans.

The former Premier League champions have decided not to renew De Bruyne’s contract which expires this summer.

This means the 33-year-old will leave as a free agent after a decade at the club, where he won six league titles and a Champions League trophy.

De Bruyne missed the chance to score against Bournemouth onTuesdaynight, as City won 3-1 to climb up into third place.

As the lights went out inside the ground, De Bruyne, alongside his wife Michele Lacroix and their three children – Mason, Rome and Suri – took to the pitch for the final time as the fans sang his name.

City players and officials gave him a guard of honour as he made his way to the centre circle, surrounded by fireworks and smaller lights.

When he asked how he felt, De Bruyne replied: “Very emotional.”;;

Guardiola was then seen in tears, as the Belgian midfielder took a moment to collect his thoughts.
