Former Argentina striker, Sergio Aguero, has said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is “qualified” to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Aguero, speaking with Stake, said City will need to start planning for the future fairly soon.

And he has advised the Premier League champions to make a move for one of Guardiola’s most talented disciples.

“Pep has extended his contract, and Arteta has been doing a brilliant job at Arsenal,” Aguero said.

“The point is moot right now, but if what you’re looking for is a forward-thinking answer and whether Arteta could be a good manager for City — I’d say he’s qualified for the task.”;

Arteta began his managerial career at City, working as Guardiola's assistant for almost three years.

The 42-year-old then departed the Etihad in 2019 to become the head coach of Arsenal.
