The Lagos State Government has announced the establishment of a new Governing Council for Lagos State University (LASU), demonstrating a renewed commitment to enhancing the administration and academic excellence of the institution.
This approval was outlined in a circular released on Friday and signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro.
As stated, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed the appointment of an 11-member council that will guide the strategic direction and governance of the state-owned university.
“In alignment with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education across state-owned tertiary institutions, it is hereby communicated for general information that Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved the membership of the Lagos State University Governing Council,” the circular indicated.
The circular also instructed all accounting officers to acknowledge this development and ensure that the information is adequately publicized across relevant institutions and departments.
The newly appointed LASU Governing Council will be chaired by Mr. Babatunde Ogala, SAN, a prominent legal practitioner, capital market consultant, and expert in business recovery.
Other council members include Oluseyi Badmus, Bode Makanjuola, Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Shaffudeen Amuwo, Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, Kofo Durosimi-Etti, Farouk Gumel, Adenike Akanbi, Biodun Hundeyin, and Remi Desalu.
Mr. Ogala, who obtained his law degree from the University of Jos in 1985 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, brings a wealth of experience in legal and corporate governance.
He previously held the position of General Legal Adviser for Guardian Press Limited for five years and worked as an Associate Counsel at the Femi Okunnu Chambers.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, where he made significant contributions to legislative development in the state.
