Recounting the incident live on the BBC, Kelly Somers said of her Beeb colleague: “He tried to wave at , he thought Dan Burn was waving at him.
“Dan Burn completely pied him, he was waving at his family.
“Alan has since shaken his hand, got in trouble with some of the staff here, it’s not allowed. I don’t think they knew who he was.”
Seemingly unbothered by the incident, Shearer laughed as the story was told on air.
Burn, 34, has been something of a cult hero for England fans during the tournament.
