EMMERDALE is bringing back a major character for a shock return – and they’ve already filmed their comeback scenes.
The ITV soap has gone to extreme lengths to keep the identity of the actor and character involved but The Sun can now exclusively reveal who is back.
Actor will be back on screens next month for a limited stint six years after quitting the show.
The star – who played between 2014 and 2019 in the ITV soap – agreed to return as a one-off treat for fans as ex-husband Aaron Dingle prepares to .
Viewers know that John is a secret killer with Aaron in serious danger from his twisted husband to be.
A source said: “It’s the biggest secret in soapland but Robert is returning to .
“Ryan has a lot of respect for the show and its fans and he really wanted to give them a treat so he agreed to come back for a brief stint.
“It’s going to be a huge surprise for fans especially the Robron fans who have missed Robert desperately since Ryan quit.
“Nothing was seen as being too extreme to keep the secret with fake names on scripts, smuggling him in and out of the studios and keeping everything very tight.”;
Emmerdale had no comment when contacted by The Sun.
The Sun revealed back in 2019 that Ryan had quit the show to take on other roles.
He was written out in an explosive storyline that saw him kill his sister Victoria’s rapist Lee Posner accidentally.
Robert hit Lee with a shovel and he fell hitting his head on a rock.
Robert pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder.
However it later emerged that Lee’s death could have been caused by a brutal fight he had with his brother Luke the day of his death, leaving the door open for a potential release for Robert.
Robert is believed to still be locked up inside and has had no contact with his family or friends since being jailed after cutting them off.
Over the past few weeks, John’s twisted life has begun to be exposed.
A secret serial killer, he has developed a hero complex in which he desires to be seen as a knight in shining armour.
It has seen him putting plenty of villagers – from Jacob to Dr Liam – in harm’s way in order to then rescue them and be praised for his actions.
He’s also happily covered up the murder of Anthony Fox as well as killing Nate Robinson and dumping his body – a secret still yet to be exposed.
