Nigeria’s new minister of power, Joseph Tegbe, said the biggest challenge with the country’s power sector, from the transmission, generation, and distribution value chains, is governance.
He disclosed this in a speech upon resumption of office on Tuesday.
Tegbe, who had an inaugural engagement with all the heads of agencies under his ministry, admitted that the country’s power sector faces serious challenges.
He, however, noted that technical issues account for only a fraction of those challenges, while governance takes the larger chunk of Nigeria’s power sector setback.
Tegbe urged joint efforts by all departments and agencies under the power ministry to solve the challenge of the Nigerian electricity supply industry.
“This sector faces serious challenges. Technical issues account for only a fraction of those challenges. The larger challenge is governance. No agency, no department, no unit can solve this sector’s problems alone,” he said in a statement on Tuesday by Transmission Company of Nigeria’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah.
