Police have apprehended eight individuals following a “serious assault” that has left a woman in critical condition and a man hospitalized.

Authorities initiated an attempted murder inquiry after the two victims, both in their 60s, were discovered injured at a residence in Elswick, Newcastle, on Friday evening.

Authorities have now confirmed that eight individuals have been arrested in relation to the attempted murder investigation.

Two men in their 20s, two men in their 30s, and a man in his 40s have all been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Additionally, another man in his 40s and one in his 60s have been arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of concerns for a woman and a man at a location on Durham Street in the Elswick area around 6:45 PM on Friday.

It is reported that both individuals were victims of a severe attack inside the residence.

The woman suffered significant head injuries and remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the injured man is also hospitalized and is currently in stable condition.

A cordon is still in effect at the property, with a substantial police presence in the vicinity.

Forensic teams were observed collecting evidence earlier today as they examined the scene.

Some items were placed into bags, and a forensic tent was set up in front of the property.

Detectives have appealed to anyone with information to come forward and have requested the public's help in locating a vehicle that was reportedly stolen.
