Published on June 03, 2025 at 02:55 PM

The Kano State ministry has advised residents to ensure the health and hygiene of animals that will be sacrificed during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, to mitigate transmission of disease to humans.

This was made known on Tuesday in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa.

According to the statement, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, urged residents to only buy animals that are healthy and can be slaughtered safely in a hygienic manner.

“This is to protect public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic infections to humans,”; the statement added.

The Commissioner said the public should also be cautious on how meat is handled and prepared, insisting that proper hygiene in cooking is an important step for preventing food-borne illnesses.

“Washing the meat with clean water before cooking or storing helps avoid contamination.”;

Dr. Yusuf also assured all health facilities are fully stocked with medical supplies to provide adequate emergency care during the festivities.
