EFCC urges students to shun negative use of internet in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has advised students across Nigeria to refrain from the negative use of the internet, noting that such actions could lead to criminal consequences and hinder their future prospects.

This message was conveyed on Friday, June 20, 2025, during an interactive session with students from the Department of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The students visited the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC as part of an educational excursion.

During the session, Zonal Director CE Michael Nzekwe, represented by the Head of Public Affairs Directorate in Lagos, Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE) Ayo Oyewole, encouraged the visiting students to harness their creativity and channel their ideas into productive ventures.

“As youths, you must begin to look inward and challenge your creative abilities to bring up ideas, perspectives and drives that can grow the economy,”; he said.

The EFCC also urged the students to support its anti-corruption efforts by rejecting internet fraud and all forms of corrupt practices.

Dr Ibukun David, a lecturer from the department who led the students on the visit, expressed appreciation for the reception and insightful engagement. He noted that the students would share the knowledge gained about the Commission’s work with others in their communities.
