Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that enhancing the poor educational system in the state is a primary focus of his administration, revealing that the education sector will receive the largest budget allocation in 2026.

The governor made this announcement on Monday while opening the 123/124 combined quarterly meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt.

Fubara acknowledged that many schools throughout the state are in poor condition, but emphasized that this decline did not occur overnight.

He asserted that the deterioration existed before his administration and was one of the key issues raised by opponents during the 2023 election campaigns.

Regarding healthcare, Governor Fubara highlighted the ongoing upgrades to zonal hospitals and other initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of healthcare workers as evidence of enhanced service delivery in the sector.

Concerning employment, he expressed the government's commitment to job creation but insisted that recruitment, including the anticipated 10,000 positions, will be based on the state's needs, assuring that the process will remain free from political influence.

The meeting, which was the third and fourth combined session of the year and the fourth since he took office, also allowed Governor Fubara to commend traditional rulers for their contributions to resolving the political crisis that once threatened stability in the state.

“Their intervention helped maintain peace in their regions, contributing to the largely tranquil atmosphere we currently enjoy,” he stated.
