The administration of Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki has expelled three students due to their alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Michael Awoke, made the announcement during the inauguration of the newly elected Students’ Union Government executives for the 2025/2026 academic year, which took place on Friday.
Professor Awoke emphasized that this decision was made to deter others, declaring that the era of cultism at the university has come to an end. He warned that anyone found guilty of cultism, examination malpractice, or possessing weapons intended to intimidate students or staff would face immediate expulsion.
The three students who were expelled were reportedly apprehended with firearms and live ammunition during the recent Students’ Union Government election at the university.
The management identified the expelled students as Azubike Lawrence from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Enyinnaya Ibe Kenneth from the Department of Architecture, and Njoku Joshua from the Department of Animal Science.
