Tracy-Ann has now shared her reasons for returning to the show.

She stated: “I enjoyed my storyline with Sharon [Letitia Dean] last year so much that when Ben Wadey asked me to return for Christmas, how could I refuse?

“Chrissie is a part of me; she is such a fantastic character, so I love the idea of her coming back at Christmas to stir up trouble.”

She continued: “What I appreciate about Ben and the team is their openness to discussing the character and her motivations.

“They are very respectful of the characters and the actors who brought them to life. We had an extensive discussion about why Chrissie would return to the Square and what her motivations are.

“Who wouldn’t want to be involved in a Christmas Day storyline in Albert Square, especially when it’s Chrissie!”

While Chrissie’s return was a surprise, her brief appearance will see her reunite with Zoe and Sam Mitchell for the first time in over twenty years.

“Ben and I were eager to keep Chrissie’s return a secret, so I’m thrilled my comeback was kept under wraps,” she added.

“Chrissie has always felt it’s unfair that she spent 20 years in prison without being able to move on from the trauma caused by Dirty Den and her life in Walford. When the chance arose to have leverage over Zoe Slater, whom she has always found bothersome, she seized the opportunity.

“She clearly has time on her hands! Additionally, while Chrissie is tough, she has a strong sense of justice, believing Zoe has never truly paid for Den’s murder and her role in ruining the Watts family.

“What started as a game for Chrissie has turned into a bit of an obsession, and finding this wonderful daughter, who was also hurt by Zoe, felt like too good an opportunity to pass up.

“Moreover, I believe she genuinely cares for Jasmine. She’s like the daughter she never had, and I think she wants to empower Jasmine to seek revenge on the woman who abandoned her. Chrissie believes Zoe needs to take responsibility, and that’s her driving force.”

Tracy-Ann added: “Another joy of returning to EastEnders on Christmas Day was the chance to work with Jessie, Michelle, and Kim.

“I spent so much time with them during my brief but impactful stint on EastEnders. Being back in The Queen Vic with Michelle and Kim was incredibly emotional.

“We kept embracing each other and reminiscing about how much time had passed since we were last together, sharing photos of our children and discussing how our lives have evolved over the last 20 years. It has been a truly amazing experience.

“It also reminded me of what EastEnders does best: strong female characters in dynamic storylines, collaborating to create drama.”
