Shaun Williamson Opens Up About Reprising His Iconic Barry Evans Role in EastEnders After 21 Years

EASTENDERS star Shaun Williamson has opened up about reprising his iconic role after 21 years.

The in the hit soap, will return to Albert Square next month as part of a special episode centering around Nigel Bates’s dementia storyline.

Shaun has already filmed the scenes which will see him return to the Queen Vic alongside his on-screen (Pam St Clement).

Speaking on his return to , Shaun Williamson said: “It was a complete shock getting the call to go back to Albert Square, but so exciting!

“I have to admit to a few nerves (loads!) when I walked back onto the set of The Queen Victoria, but it was so great to work with old friends and colleagues on such a brilliant episode.

“Just goes to show, you never know what’s around the corner!”

Shaun’s character Barry will reappear in Nigel’s imagination which goes back to the 1990s with Pat as the Queen Vic’s landlady.

The episode will see Pat and her step-son Barry put their differences aside to help Nigel, played by Paul Bradley, in his time of need.

Shaun first joined the soap in 1994 and a decade later his character was shockingly killed off by his on-screen wife (Charlie Brooks) when she pushed him off a cliff.

In the years that have followed, he has become well-known for constantly being referred to as “Barry from EastEnders” in his media appearances as himself.

Since his soap stint Shaun has appeared on other shows which include sitcom Life’s Too Short, Mr Bigstuff and fronted his own CBBC show Scoop.

The actor also became known for his successful appearances on television quiz programmes.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Shaun would be taking part in the programme .

It is the starry spin-off of the quiz show which had been given a revamp ahead of its return.

Shaun was one of the participants on the programme, which was hosted by .

and also starred as regular team captains on the programme and were each joined by a different famous face each week.

Shaun made a memorable appearance in the grand finale of the quiz show, facing off against , but ultimately fell short when he lost by two points.
