DSS, FIDA Partner to combat gender-based violence

Published on May 21, 2025 at 06:26 PM

The Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Niger State, Alhaji Usman Bello Hussain, has expressed concern over the increasing involvement of underage girls and women in social vices in the state.

During a courtesy visit by the Niger State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Hussain emphasized the need for partnership to tackle the trend.

Hussain assured FIDA members of the DSS’s commitment to protecting the rights of girls and women against any form of molestation.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing gender-based violence and ensuring a safe environment for women and children.

“The partnership aims to support the domestication of the Violence Against Persons (VAP) law in Niger State, which would replace the outdated penal code,”;; the Director stated.

The State Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs. Bolanle Jibogun, had earlier emphasized the need for the new law to effectively address and punish offenders of gender-based violence.
