THIS is the shocking moment a drug-driver smashed into a pensioner and killed him as he crossed the road.

Michael Piper, 79, suffered devastating injuries after he was catapulted into the air by Jamie Sutton in Cliftonville, Kent.

The pensioner was taken to hospital but tragically died from complications related to his injuries in February 2025.

Sutton, 30, has now been jailed for three-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving and drug driving.

Michael’s family have now asked for footage of the crash to be released in full to highlight the “lenient” sentence, which could see Sutton released within 18 months.

It shows Sutton, who was under the influence of , plough into the OAP as he crossed the road in broad daylight.

Michael was seen somersaulting into the air by the driver before crashing back to the ground.

His sister, Ann Mabb, told KentOnline the family were seeking to refer the sentence to the Attorney General as being unduly lenient.

She said: “We are disgusted, it’s terrible. He should have got six years, 10 years, not three-and-a-half.”

Kent Police‘s sergeant Luke Olsen said: “This was a devastating case, where a driver’s poor judgement and irresponsible behaviour under the influence of have ultimately resulted in the loss of a much-loved man’s life.

“Throughout the investigation, officers remained committed to securing evidence to bring the offender before the to be held to account.

“Thanks to their meticulous work, investigators were able to demonstrate the full consequences of Sutton’s actions and secure his conviction.

“It’s right that he is behind bars.”
