The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned the 1,700 corps members deployed to Bauchi State against indiscipline and taking the law into their own hands during their service year.
The Bauchi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Umoren Kufre, gave the warning on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in the state.
Kufre urged the corps members to uphold patriotism, discipline, loyalty and obedience to the rules guiding the scheme, stressing that they must use the proper channels to address grievances.
“In case you notice any irregularity, do not take the law into your hands; always ensure that you follow the proper channel of communication to express your grievances,” he said.
He said the orientation course was designed to prepare the corps members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges of national service.
According to him, the exercise would feature paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical exercises, lectures, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
The coordinator commended the corps members for their conduct since arriving at the camp, saying they had actively participated in activities without any serious incident.
He urged them to demonstrate humility, patriotism, loyalty and commitment throughout their service year.
The coordinator also assured the corps members that their safety and welfare remained a priority, while commending Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his continued support for the NYSC scheme.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bashir Yau, urged the corps members to take their service seriously and contribute to national development through meaningful Community Development Service projects.
Justice S.S. Sabo, who represented the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Umar, administered the oath to the 1,700 corps members deployed to the state.
