Diver Captures Harrowing Shark Attack That Nearly Costs Him a Leg – But He Holds No Grudges!

HORRIFYING footage shows the moment an influencer nearly lost a leg after he was savagely attacked by a shark.

Henry Gibbs, a fishing content creator, captured the terrifying encounter on camera during his first dive in Fiji.

The video shows the grey reef emerging from the deep before suddenly darting towards the influencer at lightning speed.

Henry then loses control of the camera and starts thrashing around in panic as the shark latches onto him.

Fellow divers Colby and Dan hauled Henry out of the water and applied first aid to the wound before rushing him to .

While his leg was fortunately left intact, the traumatised diver still needed four surgeries and a skin graft on his right leg after the attack on July 18.

Despite his painful , Henry said that he had “no hard feelings” towards the shark, adding that it was simply in the animal’s nature to attack.

The influencer said: “First dive in Fiji ended in a pretty nasty shark incident.

“Feeling incredibly lucky to still have my leg, full use of my foot and to be on the mend.

“No hard feelings towards the shark. I was in its hunting its food.”

He added that he feels “very lucky” to still be alive and now has a “greater appreciation” for life.

The content creator shared footage of the incident with his 113,000 followers on July 24.

He had been at the time when he noticed reef sharks lingering in the area.

Henry said he was unsure what spooked the shark but suspected the commotion from the boat orthe sound of spearguns may have provoked it.

“I’ll never know exactly what caused the change, but eventually it started making tight semicircles beneath us, became increasingly agitated and even sprinted at the boat,” said Henry.

“Looking back, that should’ve been enough of a sign to call the .

“I never thought a shark of that size posed much of a threat, and that was a mistake.”

The influencer also shared some tips for anyone who finds themselves face to face with a shark.

He said: “My main takeaways are, if a shark’s behaviour starts to change, end the dive and move on.

“Stick to plain black wetsuits in the tropics.

“I’ve since heard of several grey reef shark incidents involving divers wearing camouflage wetsuits.”

He added that if a shark becomes agitated, erratic or increasingly aggressive, don’t ignore it.

“Don’t judge the risk by the shark’s size,” he said.

It follows a series of horrifying attacks in Australia, including the off the coast of Tasmania.
