In the video, the expat teacher stated: “The biggest differences between teaching in a school in the UK and a school in Dubai.”

She mentioned that she has been working in the UAE for six years and noted that school days often begin earlier than in the UK.

The teacher also shared that they frequently receive assistance from specialists to help students with physical education and music, whereas in the UK, teachers are expected to cover all subjects.

While in the UK, students often experience 'wet play' when it rains too heavily to go outside, in Dubai, they have 'hot play' when the temperatures are too high to leave the building.

Regarding her experience in Dubai, she stated that since salaries are tax-free, she earns significantly more than she did in UK schools.

Additionally, the teacher revealed that many expatriate positions include benefits such as housing, flights, and private healthcare coverage.

Another notable difference is that teachers receive an end-of-service gratuity since there are no pension contributions in the United Arab Emirates.

She added that another advantage of working abroad is having more free periods to manage administrative tasks, unlike in the UK where many teachers have to do this in their own time.

She concluded: “Overall, moving to teach in the UAE from the UK was absolutely the best decision I’ve ever made.

“Personally, my work-life balance is far better than it was in the UK.”

The video has since gone viral on her TikTok account @ thatexpatteacher with over 190k views and 3,800 likes.

Many viewers took to the comments to express their thoughts and seek advice on relocating abroad.

One commenter wrote: “I’m in the UK and we don’t have any specialists at all, not even for PE! We teach literally everything; it’s ridiculous.”

Another remarked: “Please, I need you to provide more tips on how to become a teacher in the UAE.”

Nice. I would love to work there,” expressed a third user.

How easy is it to move abroad?

Brexit means British citizens now need to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries have easier residency requirements than others, here’s what you need to do at home before relocating:

  • Notify HMRC about your upcoming move.
  • Inform your local authority and provide a forwarding address.
  • Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before departing.
  • If you have contributed enough to UK national insurance, you may qualify for a state pension abroad – reach out to the International Pension Centre .
  • Consider signing up for the Royal Mail’s redirection service .
  • If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre .
  • If you have children, give proper notice to childcare providers and schools.

Meanwhile, a fourth commenter said: “Well done!”

“Thanks for sharing. I’m assuming you’re a primary teacher?” asked a fifth.

Another added: “Nice one!”
