Tim Davie has announced on November 11, 2025 he will step down as director-general of the BBC. It comes after concerns have been raised about impartiality at the corporation, including how a speech by US President Donald Trump was edited in an episode of Panorama. BBC staff are reportedly “euphoric” following Tim Davie’s exit with workers claiming he pandered to talent and didn’t deal with real issues.

The CEO of BBC News, Deborah Turness, has also resigned after the corporation came under intense pressure for viewers by how it spliced together footage of the US president.

A BBC Insider told The Sun that following Davie’s resignation, the mood among ground staff was “euphoric”.

“I don’t think euphoric is an understatement,” they said.

“We’ve been waiting for change for much too long. On the ground, workers were all sick of him.

“He spent all this time pandering to certain talent and restricting coverage but when it came to the real issues was nowhere to be seen.

“Everyone sees Tim as this person who you hear about but never actually see.”

A Panorama episode broadcast a week before last year’s US election spliced together different sections of a Trump speech to make it appear as if he was encouraging the in 2021.

The fakery led viewers to see urge his supporters to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell” — instead of his actual call to protest peacefully.

Embattled chiefs at the Beeb came under immense international pressure to explain the corporation’s “misleading reporting” exposed by a whistleblower.

Another insider said that Davies’ exit is a “great day for the BBC”, adding that are “far better leaders”.

They told The Sun: “He was a crap leader and was an uninspiring figure for all that worked there.

“If he addressed staff directly during difficult periods he’d just look awkward and uncomfortable.

“It was like he’d rather be anywhere else than talking to your department.

“There are far better leaders within the BBC than Tim.”

The evidence of the doctored footage was contained within a first reported by The Telegraph, by an ex-member of the BBC’s standards committee,

It claimed executives ignored its own watchdog’s complaints and placed Tim Davie under intense pressure

Davie’s message to staff following his resignation said he had to take “ultimate responsibility” for mistakes.

He said: “In these increasingly polarised times, the BBC is of unique value and speaks to the very best of us.

“It helps make the UK a special place; overwhelmingly kind, tolerant and curious.

“Like all public organisations, the BBC is not perfect, and we must always be open, transparent and accountable.

“While not being the only reason, the current debate around BBC News has understandably contributed to my decision.

“Overall the BBC is delivering well but there have been some mistakes made and as director-general I have to take ultimate responsibility.”
