Preparations are underway for the final burial of former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in accordance with Islamic rites, shortlty after his body arrived in his home in Daura, where he had specifically requested to be laid to rest.
Earlier in the day, Buhari’s remains were received at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina after being flown in from the United Kingdom.

A solemn convoy escorted the body from Katsina to Daura under tight security, drawing crowds of mourners who lined the roads to pay their last respects.

At a makeshift prayer ground in Daura, Janazah (funeral) prayers were offered, attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, senior government officials, and traditional leaders.

The atmosphere was heavy with grief and reverence as thousands joined in silent prayer for the late leader.

Following the prayers, dignitaries began to disperse while Buhari’s body was quietly transported to the courtyard of his residence in preparation for burial.

The remains, carried in a specially designated ambulance, was placed in a holding area where clerics and family members gathered ahead of the interment.

Security around the area remains high, and the ancient city of Daura has come to a near standstill as residents continue to gather in hushed anticipation of the final rites.

Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a brief illness in a London clinic, served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
