A MUM who spent £91 on a designer bag for her daughter to use for school in September has hit back at critics.
School bags can be pricey, as parents are always looking for one that’s durable, stylish and comfortable for their children to carry.

And Whitney says she’s found the perfect bag – but it will set you back a whopping £91.
“Would you spend £91 on a bag for your children for school ?” she began in a video on her TikTok page.
“Oh my god!” her daughter exclaimed as she unwrapped the bag – a black shoulder bag with a zip on the top and ‘Valentino’ on the front.
“It’s actually really nice. Look at that!” Whitney added.
She asked her daughter if it was big enough for school, to which she replied with an unenthused “Yeah”.
“Are you happy?” Whitney asked, with her daughter – who barely smiled once in the video – again replying with “yeah”.
“I absolutely love Valentino bags,” she continued.
“They last, they’re really good quality and I mean £91 for a year isn’t bad is it?”
“£91 FOR A YEAR AIN’T BAD,” she captioned the video.
But people commenting on the video insisted the times have changed since they had to get bags for school.
“Looking back to when I took a plastic Jane Norman bag to school!” one joked.
“What happened to the good old days when we went to school with Nike string bags and our PE kit in a JD string bag?” another questioned.
“Asda bags was the top deal,” a third insisted.
While others said they would never think about buying a designer bag for their kids for school.
“Not a chance .. some kids have nothing,” one sighed.
“No because as someone who had a handbag for high school every seam gets ripped due to over filling it, and all the corners on the bottom peel away/rip from being on the floor most of the day,” another agreed.
EXTRA HELP WITH SCHOOL UNIFORM COSTS
IF you can't get targeted help from your council, you might have some other options available to you.
In some areas, you can talk directly to your school, which might be able to offer you clothing.
Or, you might be able to get cheap garments from low-budget shops or charity stores.
Some charities offer help to families in need too.
But bear in mind charities often have a limited amount of money to give and usually have specific criteria which must be met in order to get a grant.
Charity Turn2Us has a free grants search tool on its website which you can use to find out what help is available to you.
Meanwhile, you can always try approaching your nearest Citizens’ Advice branch.
If you don’t know where your nearest Citizens’ Advice branch is, you can find out by visiting www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/nearby/.
If you’re not eligible for a school uniform grant you might be able to get help through the Household Support Fund .
“If u can afford it then yes but I remember when my kids were younger many parents could barely pay for the school uniform as the prices rocketed nearly £300 a child so designer handbags would not of been a priority,” a third said.
“No never in a billion years would I pay that for a bag for my self never mind for a child for school!” someone else insisted.
As another wrote: “My daughter went to a very strict school (not private) but private ethics ……… they all had to have the same bag.
“I thought this was brilliant as then there’s no being bullied for not having the best or most trendy as not everyone can afford.
“But I’m sure your daughter is very happy and it’s a lovely bag.”
