The Delta State Police Command has ordered the removal and redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division in Ethiope-West Local Government Area, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, to the State Headquarters due to allegations of extorting two million, five hundred thousand naira (N2.5m) from a citizen.

A police constable known as Bright, who is linked to this case, has been detained. CP Adesola has also directed the Command’s AC X-Squad to investigate the situation.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a statement sent to our correspondent in Warri.

He stated, “The Command is aware of the viral video featuring a woman who alleges that Officer Bright, Officer Usman, and the DPO of Jesse extorted two million, five hundred thousand naira (N2,500,000) from her with the promise that her brother, who is currently in custody, would be released. After a thorough review of the video clip, the Command wishes to clarify the following;”

According to SP Edafe, “On January 1, 2026, the youth leader of the Jesse community apprehended several suspects and brought them to the police station.

“Among the suspects was the narrator’s younger brother, later identified as Israel Onojeruo, aged 20 years.

“The suspect was arrested based on the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who claimed to have sold a gun to Israel Onojeruo.

“The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.

“Regarding the allegations of extortion against the DPO and two other officers from the Jesse division, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, who is known for being community-friendly, listened to the complaint and took immediate action.

“The CP has directed the AC X-Squad to investigate the allegations against the officers.

“The constable identified as Bright in the video has been detained at the command headquarters, and the DPO has been reassigned to the command headquarters pending the investigation's outcome.”

SP Edafe explained that, “The removal of the DPO is a response to multiple complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct made against him from various sources.”

SP Edafe further stated, “The CP assures the public that if, after the investigation, the officers are found to have acted unprofessionally, they will face appropriate consequences as outlined in the Police Act and regulations, serving as a deterrent to others.

“The CP emphasizes that under his leadership, the command will not tolerate any form of extortion, intimidation, incivility towards the public, or unprofessionalism from its officers.

“He urges the public to contact the command's complaint response unit using the following phone numbers in case of any complaints regarding police actions.”
