DAYOT UPAMECANO was guilty of a horror miss in Bayern Munich’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid.

The Frenchman, 27, had a golden chance to put the German giants ahead just eight minutes into the game at the Bernabeu.

had floated a perfectly timed ball into the area that the visitors failed to deal with.

attempted to get on the end of it but it was rebounded straight into the path of an unmarked just yards from goal.

With no one marking the centre-back, he should have had a simple task of poking the ball into the back of the net.

But his effort somehow bounced into the ground, taking all the momentum out of the effort.

It bobbled towards the goalline but Madrid defender was able to hook it away from danger.

The international is not renowned for his goalscoring but even he will be baffled over how he didn’t hit the back of the net.

Fans flocked to social media to express their shock at Upamecano’s blunder.

One wrote on X: “How is it possible for one to miss this?!”

A second said: “Upamecano HAD to score this.”

A third added: “I would have scored it myself! That’s a honking miss.”

And a fourth joked: “How do I explain to my kids that Upamecano didn’t score in this situation?”

Another wrote: “How on earth is Upamecano missing that? Ridiculous.”

Luckily for Upamecano, still managed to take the lead before half time as converted from close range.

Harry Kane then doubled Bayern’s lead just after the interval.

Upamecano has spent the last five season with Bayern after joining them from Red Bull Leipzig in 2021.

He has scored six goals in total for the Bavarian side from 186 appearances.

The defender played 154 times for Leipzig, scoring four goals. He previously turned out for Red Bull Salzburg.
