FORMER EFL star David McDermott has died at the age of 38.

The footballer made his debut for Walsall in back in 2005 against .

The winger’s outing against the Terriers made him the club’s youngest-ever league debutant.

He made his professional debut for the Saddlers the season before in the .

McDermott’s death was confirmed on social media as Walsall were among his former clubs to pay tribute.

The club released a statement in which they sent their condolences to his family and friends.

It read: “Everyone connected to Walsall Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David McDermott, the club’s youngest ever league debutant.

“David progressed through our youth system and made his debut for the Saddlers in the League Cup as a substitute against back in August 2004.

“Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with David’s family and friends at this most difficult time.”

McDermott also played for the likes of York City, Kidderminster Harriers and Worcester City during his career.

The three clubs also released statements following the news of his death.

York wrote: “Everyone at York City Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former player David McDermott.

“David played for the Minstermen between 2010 and 2012, and made 21 appearances for the club, scoring once.

“We send all our love and support to David’s friends and family at this immensely difficult time.”

Kidderminster posted: “All at Harriers are saddened to learn of the passing of former player David McDermott.

“David featured 54 times for the Reds between 2008 and 2010, scoring twice, as part of a promotion-chasing National League side.

“At this heartbreaking time, our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.”

Worcester shared: “Everyone at Worcester City Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of former player David McDermott.

“David had a short stint with the club in 2014 making 10 appearances and was part of the squad that faced at the Ricoh Arena.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Worcester was McDermott’s final club before he seemed to finish his playing career.
