But before reaching darts stardom, The Dutch Destroyer tried a few odd jobs in his bid to make a living.
One of those saw trying out as a supermarket clerk, but that quickly went up in flames as he couldn’t even complete a single shift.
In fact, he didn’t even last half a shift as he clashed with a supervisor while front-facing the shelves.
Van der Voort told Darts Draait Door how quickly he got the sack: “Yeah, three hours. Then I was sent home. That wasn’t a success.
“I was fronting those products and then a man in a suit came up to me. He said, ‘You can do that with two hands as well’.
“So I said, ‘If you can do it better, you go ahead and do it then’.
“I had to come to the office. He thought my response wasn’t normal. I then didn’t respond quite the way he wanted me to either, so he said, ‘Shall we just call it a day’. That was fine.”
Van der Voort had no future as a stocker but he still considered alternative careers if didn’t work out.
The thrower revealed he once juggled his sport aspirations with a degree in Business and Economics, but he never completed his studies.
Van der Voort said: “I did a higher professional degree in Business Economics, but I didn’t fully complete it. As I kept progressing in darts, I kind of let it slide.”
The star also revealed there was another sport he actually considered as he always wanted to become an athlete.
Van der Voort responded: “Pro golfer. At least something in . I’m a real sports nut, so I’d always want to do something in sport.”
