A POPULAR darts star has quietly changed his nationality “for family reasons.”

His campaign was ended in emphatic fashion in the third round as he lost out 6-2 to Ricky Evans.

A PDC source said: “Brendan has changed his nationality to Republic of Ireland for family reasons but he has no intention of competing in the World Cup of Darts in future.”

Even if he wanted to compete in the World Cup – he would be forced to wait FIVE YEARS.

It is believed the PDC only recognise a nationality change after that period of time has passed.

Dolan is currently ranked 42 in the world rankings.

His exit in the last 96 of the will see him pocket just £2,000 in prize money.

The winner will scoop £120,000 with the beaten finalist getting £60K.

The prize pot total for the tournament is £750,000.

The PDC World Rankings are based on the prize money players earn in ranking tournaments over a two-year period.

World No1 has netted a massive £2,871,000.

His advantage over nearest challenger is over £1.6million.

The UK Open winner will be crowned when the tournament concludes on Sunday.
