Tragic Family Shooting: Father Kills Wife and Six Children Before Arson and Suicide

A MAN shot dead his wife and their six children – then turned the gun on himself – before setting fire to their Michigan home.

The bodies of and their six kids, aged five to 15, were found in their upmarket home in Grand Haven Township.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jake Sparks told a press conference that all victims had been shot.

“The investigation at this point shows that this is a murder-suicide, with the fire being started after the murders,” Sparks said.

The fire also seems to have been set intentionally in multiple parts of the house after the killings, but officials still are investigating this, the sheriff’s office said.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy that we may never fully understand,” Sheriff Eric DeBoer said in a statement.

Police were called to the scene after receiving reports of white smoke pouring from the building.

At the time, Sparks described the grim scene as “complicated”.

An elementary school substitute teacher, Amanda was described as a “kind and devoted soul” who loved her family and her students.

Her mother and stepfather, Becky and Steve Lawwill, said in a statement: “We treasured every moment we had with her and her six children, and words cannot adequately address our devastation.”

A January post by the local school district said the teacher “went above and beyond for students, especially when they’re having a hard day, responding with empathy, patience, and care.”

Amanda and Kris met at work at a beverage company in 2008 and began dating that summer, according to a parenting-oriented blog that she kept over a decade ago. The two married in August 2009.

They had their first child in 2011, which she hailed as “the best day of my life (so far)”.

Two more sons followed over the next four years, as she shifted from a banking job to a part-time position at a local insurance agency and later stopped working outside the home.

The couple later adopted two daughters and had another biological son.

Heartbroken relatives have paid tribute to their late loved ones.

Amanda’s sister, Molly Cessna, said: “Everything’s just blurry. Please continue to pray, friends. please continue to pray as we try and piece everything together.

“Our hearts are utterly shattered. Tragic doesn’t even touch it.”
