A CYCLIST has tragically lost his life after being hit by a car in a shocking hit-and-run incident in a busy city.
Authorities have detained a man in his 20s on suspicion of dangerous driving following the accident that occurred in Bedminster, Bristol, yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were dispatched to North Street shortly after 12:30 PM after receiving reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.
Despite the diligent efforts of medical personnel, the cyclist was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that the cyclist's family has been informed of this heartbreaking news.
The police stated: “We received a call just after 12:30 PM regarding a report of a collision between a cyclist and a car on North Street in Bedminster.
“Sadly, despite the attempts of bystanders and emergency responders, a man died at the scene.
“The next of kin of the deceased have been notified, and a specialist liaison officer will provide support to them during this profoundly difficult time.
“The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene before the police arrived. Investigations were conducted to locate the car, which has since been found.
“A man in his twenties has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving while unfit.
“The road remains closed in both directions as we conduct our investigation. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route.
