Liverpool star Curtis Jones was direct in his criticism following another “unacceptable” defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

The Reds suffered this loss on Wednesday at Anfield, marking their worst streak of results since 1953, the last time they endured three consecutive defeats by at least three goals.

The current Premier League champions have now lost nine of their last 12 matches across all competitions, following two consecutive 3-0 defeats against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

Jones, 24, addressed the media after the latest loss and did not hold back.

He even used strong language to convey how dire the situation has become.

Jones told RTE: “I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone. It’s just unacceptable.

“I don’t even need to think about it. I’ve moved past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply don’t have the words.

“It’s challenging because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve followed this club my entire life.

“In a long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results like these.

“But ultimately, we still wear that badge on our chests. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.

“We are determined to bring this team back to where it should be, to show everyone again what this club represents and why people regard it as the best team in the world.

“But right now, we’re in a difficult position, and it has to change.”

Jones reiterated his brutally honest self-assessment in another interview, suggesting the team – himself included – is being too “nice”.

The international player insists this must change, and the squad needs to rediscover their killer instinct to compete like “absolute warriors” once again.

Jones told CBS : “You just want to be a man out there; you want to tackle someone and really give it your all.

“It’s on me and the rest of the lads to turn this around and not be so nice that teams come here thinking, ‘We’re going to win and score two, three, or four goals’.

“This used to be a place that was feared – with the fans and our style of play and how we would press and fight hard.

“Now we hardly play. There are moments when we do, but our off-the-ball work… that’s the part that needs improvement.”
