The Progressive Youth Council, PYC have appealed to Nigerians especially residents of Kogi State to support operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in the ongoing war against terrorists.
Noting that security is a collective responsibility, the Civil Society Organisation urged Nigerians to support the security agencies with necessary information to help operatives put an end to the incessant killings and abductions by the terrorists.
Ibrahim Ahmed, President General of PYC made the call during a press conference on Tuesday.
DAILY POST recalls that the Kogi State Police Command recently disclosed that joint police and military operations backed by aerial surveillance and air strikes from the Police Air Wing are ongoing in forested areas of the state to .
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, William Aya, indicated that several terrorists have been killed while their camps were dismantled, and their networks disrupted during the operations.
Video footage that recently went viral captures helicopters surrounding the terrorists’ hideouts while coordinated ground and air assaults were being intensified.
Speaking on the recorded successes, Ibrahim Ahmed said the security agencies need the support of Nigerians.
“Today, we gather in solidarity with our security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force. This show of support is important to encourage officers who risk their lives daily to keep Nigeria safe,” Ahmed stated.
He appealed to the National Assembly to prioritize improved funding for the police to strengthen operational capacity, logistics, and welfare.
The organization further described the improved inter-agency collaboration as a welcome development, citing recent joint operations with the Nigerian Army that disrupted criminal networks and forced bandits out of hideouts in parts of the North-Central region.
“We must support those who protect us. A well-funded and motivated police force is essential for lasting peace and national security”, another member of the organization identified simply as success said.
