Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent ‘spoke to Newcastle over shock January transfer as he targets Man Utd exit’

NEWCASTLE spoke to Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes about the possibility of signing the Manchester United star, according to reports.

Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford looks in serious doubt after he revealed he felt betrayed by the club.

Newcastle held talks about signing Cristiano Ronaldo last month

He was also very critical of many aspects of the club including the Glazers, slamming the lack of progress made since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

United are ready to rip up Ronaldo’s contract in January as a result and that would open up the door for a number of clubs to make a move.

Newcastle have already shown interest in signing the Portuguese after speaking to agent Mendes last month, report Daily Mail.

But with Toon sitting in third place and Callum Wilson in a rich vein of form, it is not certain the club will make a move.

They are potentially one of a few clubs who would be able to afford Ronaldo’s astronomical £360,000-a-week wages, and could negotiate a lower salary if the 37-year-old is a free agent in January.

Bayern Munich also met with Ronaldo and Mendes days before his bombshell interview with SunSport columnist Piers Morgan.

The meeting is said to have taken place in England, following previous talks in the summer when Ronaldo looked to leave United.

Ronaldo was also offered to Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Napoli but was rejected by all three clubs.

Napoli and Marseille were offered the opportunity to sign Ronaldo in January but again they have turned him down.

Sporting Lisbon remain keen on the superstar but finances could prevent them from striking a deal.
