A Magistrate Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State, has remanded Habibu Muhammad Ringim over alleged defamatory statements against a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Faruk Adamu Aliyu.

Habibu Muhammad Ringim was arraigned before the court on Monday, May 11, 2026, over allegations of making defamatory statements against the APC chieftain on Premier Radio.

In his recent comments on Premier Radio, Ringim accused Aliyu of playing a key role in denying Dr Halima the party ticket to contest for the position of senator representing Jigawa South-West.

According to him, “Governor Namadi has directed that anyone interested in any political position should contest for it. Because Hon Adamu Aliyu knows the people of the zone don’t like him, he wanted to scuttle and sabotage Dr Halima’s chances.

“He has forgotten that he himself was once an ordinary person. About twenty years ago, he worked as a carpenter before he was given the opportunity to contest the House of Representatives seat representing Birnin Kudu and Buji. Now, he has started troubling people.

“People don’t like him because he does not help anyone. He was also among those who opposed Danmodi during the 2023 election and even took the matter to the Supreme Court in an attempt to nullify the election, but they were unsuccessful.”

After hearing from both parties, the judge ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody until May 28, 2026, for continuation of the case.
